In the China-Myanmar border region of Kachin State, on October 15, the Kachin Independence Army KIA and joint forces captured the (1002) BGF battalion led by U Zabhum Tin Yen in Lupi, 10 miles from Pangwar town. It is learned from local news that after clearing the area and continuing to attack the Kanpaikti – Sadon (1003) battalion, they were able to take complete control of Pangwar on October 19.

Pangwar city is Kachin Special Region (1) and is a city where the headquarters of the Border Guard Force led by U Zabhum Tin Yen is located. Last June 7th, the Border Guard Forces (1001), (1002) and (1003) in the Special Region of Kachin State (1) in Saolaw Township, Chipwi Township, Waingmaw Township and Kanpaikti area issued a statement to attack the KIA and the PDF.

In June, after martial law was declared, joint forces led by the KIA attacked the border guards led by U Zabhum Tin Yen. The KIA has occupied up to 12 cities such as Saolaw, Chipwi, Sumprabum, N jangyang, Sadon, Sinbo, Lwegel, Dawthponeyan, Mansi, Mabein, Myohla and Momauk.

China has been under pressure since the KIA started its offensive on Chipwi, Saolaw and Pangwar towns in the Kachin Special Region (1), and in October, KIO/KIA vice president Gen. Gam Xiao and its leaders had two discussions with China’s Special Representative Teng Shuiyuan in the Chinese Yuan Dynasty. At the meeting, it is learned that the Chinese side told the KIA to “stop the operation where it arrived.”

China has told the MNDAA and TNLA to stop fighting in the fighting in North Shan, and has also pressured the KIA to stop fighting. The KIA did not accept China’s claims and attacked the Special Region of Kachin State (1) and captured the town of Pangwar, which produces rare earth minerals.

As KIA did not accept China’s claims and went on the offensive, the Chinese side has also closed all the border trade routes between Kachin and China.
